Why a personalised birthday hunt feels special

A shop-bought printable treasure hunt could be anyone's. Clue Quest uses your photos: their bedroom door, the toy box, the tree in the backyard. When they see the clue card, they know exactly where to run.

The clues are pictures, so children aged about 3 to 10 can follow them without reading.

How to set it up

  1. The day before, take 5 to 15 photos of hiding spots around the house or garden.
  2. Upload them. Each one comes back as an illustrated clue card with an X on the spot.
  3. Print the clue cards and the parent guide, then cut the cards out.
  4. Hide each card at the spot shown on the one before it. Put the present at the end.
  5. On the morning, hand over the first card and watch them go.

Birthday party ideas

  • Let the party guests hunt together as one team, then share the treasure.
  • Hide the party bags at the final spot so everyone goes home with a prize.
  • Finish the hunt at the birthday cake for a big reveal.
  • Rainy day? Keep every stop indoors.

Birthday questions

How long does a birthday treasure hunt take?
Setting up takes a few minutes once your pack is printed. The hunt itself usually lasts as long as they like to run between stops. Choose between 5 and 15 stops to make it shorter or longer.
Can a group of children play at a party?
Yes. Children can hunt together as one team, following the same trail of clue cards to the treasure at the end.
What should I hide at the end?
The birthday present works well, or party bags, a cake, a note, or a small box of chocolate coins.
